DONATION OF LAND
Date: April 4, 2017
Saugeen Conservation is extremely proud to be the recent recipient of a land donation by Mr. Brian Powers of Chesley.
The property, located in the Municipality of Kincardine, is 15 ha (37 acre) in size, three quarters of which is a significant wetland complex and the remaining portion a diverse wooded area.
Mr. Powers was born and raised in the Chepstow area. His father, Mr. Jim Powers, was Chair of Saugeen Conservation from 1970 to 1976. Like his father, Brian has a keen interest in conservation and the future well-being of this vast and diverse watershed.
“This is a beautiful piece of property and what better place for the property to be, than in the hands of Saugeen Conservation,” stated Mr. Powers. “This land is a natural fit for the SVCA and I know that they will continue to look after the property in perpetuity,” he continued.
“We’re honoured to be the recipient of this land donation,” stated Luke Charbonneau, Chair of Saugeen Conservation. “Mr. Powers has been extremely generous and we are truly grateful. Our promise, as Saugeen Conservation, is to ensure the future health of this important habitat within the Penetangore River Watershed.”
Mr. Powers also expressed his appreciation to the Municipality of Kincardine and Mr. Randy Roppel for their efforts in cleaning up the natural area in and around the property. Prior to the donation, the area had sadly been used as a dumping ground. “They did an incredible job of returning this site to its former beauty as a natural landscape”, he remarked.
This 15ha property will be added to the current land holdings of the SVCA totaling 8,535 ha of significant forests, wetland and headwater areas of our important river systems.
